1933 DeLong # 7
Graded by SGC as NM/MT 88
Realized Price: $24,000
Featuring Yankees Hall-of-Fame legend Lou Gehrig, this is the key card in the classic 24-issue 1933 Delong set. Produced and distributed during the depths of the Great Depression, this is one of the most popular and widely collected of the 1930's gum issues. In high-grade condition, this is one of Gehrig's most valuable and highly sought after cards.
Considered by many to be the greatest first baseman of all-time, Lou Gehrig enjoyed a spectacular 17-year career (1923-39), all with the New York Yankees. He was named to each of the first seven All Star teams, was a six-time World Series champion, a two-time American League MVP Award winner, and winner of the Triple Crown Award in 1934. Gehrig holds claim to three of the top six single season RBI totals. And, perhaps most famously, from 1925-1939 Gehrig played in 2,130 consecutive games, a major league record for endurance that stood for 56 years until Cal Ripken Jr. broke it in 1995.
The offered example ranks among the finest known 1933 DeLong Lou Gehrig cards. It is extraordinarily well-centered with outstanding surface and printing quality, a spectacular full-body image of Gehrig, richly colored artwork, and a fine layer of antique-white toning. This is one of just two examples graded NM/MT 88 by SGC, with one finer.
