Fall 2014 Auction
Lot Number: 101
1917 Collins-McCarthy # 30
Ty Cobb
Blank Back
Graded by PSA as EX-MT 6

Starting Bid: $4,000

This very scarce 1917 Collins-McCarthy card features legendary Tigers Hall-of-Fame great Ty Cobb. Designated as E135, this set was distributed by the Collins-McCarthy Candy Co. of California and featured a total of 200 cards - numbered in alphabetical order. The cards came with the following reverse formats: advertising for Collins-McCarthy, advertising for a number of other regional businesses, and blank-backed (the offered example).

Ty Cobb had a fantastic season in 1917! He led the American league in hits (225), doubles (44), triples (24), stolen bases (55), and batting average (.383 - the 12th consecutive year that he hit .300+, and the 10th out of 11 straight seasons that he led the league!).

Tracing its roots to the collection of Midwesterner Eugene McCoid, the offered example is the finest PSA graded copy (for all reverse formats)! Certified EX-MT 6, this card is dead-centered with minor corner wear, ultra-clean print and surface quality, a majestic image of Cobb, and a brilliant sparkling glossy finish.
