Spring 2014 Auction

1955 Topps # 164
Graded by PSA as NM-MT 8
Starting Bid: $4,000
This coveted 1955 Topps high-number series issue is the rookie card of Pirates Hall-of-Fame icon Roberto Clemente. Without a doubt, this is one of the most popular and highly sought after post-war baseball cards. It is the most valuable issue within the immensely popular 1955 Topps set, and is regularly right at the top of collector's rookie card wantlists.
Roberto Clemente enjoyed a stellar 18-year Hall-of-Fame career (1955-72), all with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was named to 15 All Star teams, won 12 Gold Glove Awards, was a four-time batting champion, and won two World Series championships. He won the MVP Award in 1966, and was named Most Valuable Player of the 1971 World Series.
The offered example is absolutely gorgeous! The centering is close to perfect, the borders are a vibrant creamy-white tone, the corner quality is outstanding, the images of Clemente, as well as the background and the design elements, are all boldly printed and extremely colorful, and the entire surface sparkles with a brilliant glossy finish. Very, very high-end eye-appeal.
