1951 Bowman
#253 Mickey Mantle

This is the rookie card of Yankees Hall-of-Fame legend Mickey Mantle and the key issue in the classic 1951 Bowman set. Pictured as a 20-year old, Mantle was just breaking into the Major Leagues when this card was distributed. He went on to play the next 18 seasons, and became the face of Yankees baseball in the 50’s and 60’s. During his remarkable career, he accumulated three MVP awards, one Triple Crown, 20 All-Star appearances, and seven World Series Championships. Along with Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb, he is one of the three most popular figures in the sports collectibles world.

The offered lot is a premium quality, NM-MT example of Mantle’s rookie card. It is extraordinarily well-centered - perfect top to bottom and virtually perfect right to left. The borders are a bright, creamy-white tone. All four corners are sharp and squared-up. Most remarkable, though, is the outstanding print quality on this card. There are no smudges, marks, or black lines visible. Mickey’s image is well-focused and crystal-clear. And the color is as deep and vibrant as the day this card came out of the pack. All in all, a fantastic example of one of the hobby’s most sought after cards.
