1888 N162 Goodwin Champions
Cap Anson
SGC NM+ 86

Issued in 1888 by Goodwin and Co. of New York, this 50 card set features a variety of athletes, including eight different baseball players. Universally regarded as one of the most attractive sets ever produced, these cards feature detailed player portraits and vivid multi-colored artwork. The set includes notable Hall-of-Famers such as Dan Brouthers, Tim Keefe, “King” Kelly, and of course, Cap Anson.

The offered card features Hall-of-Fame legend Cap Anson. One of the nineteenth century’s greatest players, Anson was the first major leaguer to accumulate 3000 hits. His career spanned 27 seasons, and he ended with a lifetime batting average of .334.

This example is the finest SGC graded Goodwin Champions Cap Anson. It is, quite simply, a breathtaking piece. The card is well-centered with a sharply focused image of Anson. The surfaces are extraordinarily clean, and are covered by a layer of satiny sheen. The artwork is absolutely spectacular. It is vividly detailed and brightly colored. And the corners have just a touch of wear.

A great opportunity to acquire one of the most important and desirable nineteenth century cards.
